Blood Pressure Pills More Effective When Taken at Night

New research shows that timing blood pressure medication with a patient's body clock makes it more effective and offers greater protection against the occurrence of heart attacks and strokes. The findings could change the hypertension treatment for hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Chronobiology International -- the international journal on how biological rhythms affect the systems of living things -- has published the results of a groundbreaking five-year study that will change the way blood pressure medication is administered and have a profound impact on the type of treatment that hypertension patients receive.  CLICK HERE to read the whole article.

This is e-mail received from a person working in a Software Company

Dear colleagues, I am working in Blore Software City ....... I wanted to share an incident of my life with you, hoping that it may be an eye opener to you so that you can live more years.

On 27th October afternoon, I had severe heart attack symptom and I was rushed to the hospital.

After reaching to the hospital, the doctors prescribed a test called angiogram. This test is basically to identify blood flow of heart arteries. When they finished the test they found a 94% block in the main artery, please see the image below with red circle.

At this point, I wanted to share my living style, which has caused this block in my heart arteries. Please see the below points of my life style, if any of these points are part of your life style then you are at risk, please change yourselves.

1. I was not doing any physical exercise for more than 10 years
, not even walking 30 minutes a day for years.

2.
My food timings are 11:00 AM Breakfast or no Breakfast, 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM Lunch and dinner at 11:00 PM to 12:00 AM.

3.
Sleeping in very odd timings, going to bed between 12:00 AM and 3:00 AM. Waking up at between 9:00 AM and 10:30AM ........ Some times spending sleepless nights.

4.
I used to eat heavily because of long gaps between lunch and dinner and I used to make sure that Non-Veg is available most of the time, there were times when I did survey on city hotels to find delicious Non-Veg dishes. I was never interested in vegetable and healthier food.

5.
Above all I was chain smoker from years.

6.
My father passed away due to heart problems, and the doctors say the heart problems are usually genetic.

Once they identified the major block they have done immediately a procedure called angioplasty along with 2 Stints, mean they will insert a foreign body into the heart arteries and open the blocked area of arteries. Please see the below image after the procedure.

I learnt from the doctors that 60% people will die before reaching the hospital,20% people will die in the process of recovering from heart attack and only 20% will survive .. In my case, I was very lucky to be part of the last 20%.

Doctors instructions:

1. Need to have physical exercise for minimum of 45 minutes daily.
2. Eat your food at perfect timings, like how you eat during your school days. Eat in small quantities more times and have lot of vegetables and boiled food, try to avoid fry items and oily food. Fish is good than other non-vegetarian food.
3. Sleep for 8 hours a day, this count should complete before sun rising.
4. Stop smoking.
5. Genetic problems, we cannot avoid but we can get away from it by having regular checkups.

6.
Find a way to get relived from the stress (Yoga, Meditation etc).

So I urge you all to please avoid getting into this situation, it is in your hands to turn the situation up side down, by just planning / changing your life style, by following simple  points above.

10 Symptoms Women Shouldn't Ignore

By Alice Daniel, Special to LifeScript

We all know the routine. We work hard. We play hard. We make lists of what has to be done right now.  What's not on the list?

Taking care of you. Too often we skip a doctor's visit or ignore symptoms because we're just too busy.
And that's a big mistake, maybe even a fatal one. Read on to find out the 10 symptoms you shouldn't
ignore...

You Get Top Priority
More often than not, it's the smart, educated woman who puts off going to the doctor,
even when going to the doctor should be a top priority, says Judy Kinzy, M.D., an internal medicine specialist in Knoxville , Tenn.  It's not unusual for a woman to finally come in long after a symptom has persisted.
"They read about it and try to figure it out on their own," Kinzy says.
"They don't think about possible consequences. Bottom line, they don't really want to have to deal with it."
But not dealing with a persistent symptom can be dangerous - and can even lead to a chronic or fatal disease.
Women should see a doctor if they experience any of the following symptoms:

1. Acute Fatigue
Let's face it: Women are used to being tired. Who doesn't have a "to do" list that's book length.
Feed cat, take children to park, finish project at work, get mechanic to listen to weird sound in car, learn Photoshop, use up eggplant in fridge, check on Mom and Dad... and on and on and on.
Overload leads to fatigue, but when low energy and exhaustion seem out of proportion to your day-to-day activities and continue for more than two weeks, see a doctor.

Acute fatigue can be a difficult symptom to diagnose, Kinzy says, but that doesn't mean you should ignore it.
It can indicate hypothyroidism, which can be treated with a hormone, or anemia, which is treatable with iron or vitamin B12 shots. More seriously, it can also be a sign of depression, sleep apnea, heart disease or even lung cancer.

 2. Rectal Bleeding
Women who have had hemorrhoids while pregnant might dismiss rectal bleeding as a sign of a new hemorrhoid and not take it seriously, says Ruth Stewart, M.D., assistant professor at Meharry Medical College and Vanderbilt University .

Rectal bleeding can indeed indicate a hemorrhoid, but it can also be a sign of colon or rectal cancer, which is curable if caught early, according to Stewart. If you experience rectal bleeding, you should see a doctor right away. And even if it's just a hemorrhoid, it still needs to be treated.

 3. Abdominal Bloating and Pain, Change in Bowel Habits
Like rectal bleeding, abdominal bloating and pain or a change in bowel habits can indicate something serious like colon cancer. These symptoms also can be a sign of ovarian cancer, inflammatory bowel syndrome or diverticulitis.

Diverticulitis occurs when you have small pouches that bulge outward in your colon (diverticulosis) that get infected. Diverticulitis can be treated with antibiotics, but sometimes requires surgery. If you experience abdominal bloating or a persistent change in bowel habits, such as constipation, make an appointment with your doctor.

 4. Pain or Discomfort in Chest
"Although heart disease is the number one killer of American women, most women still don't think about heart disease happening to them," Kinzy says. "They'll think they're having acid reflux or that they ate something funny, and  they'll just blow the feeling of discomfort off. They'll also argue against having a heart evaluation because they're so sure it's not their heart - and then it ends up being about their heart."
The signs of coronary artery disease, which can lead to a heart attack, are typically much more subtle in women than in men.

"Angina isn't always obvious in women. It's not the classic 'elephant sitting on my chest' feeling," Stewart says. "Sometimes it's just discomfort or a 'not well' feeling."

Women might misdiagnose the discomfort as acid reflux or a "burpy" sensation. One of Stewart's former patients said the feeling was akin to having a balloon inside her chest. She assumed it was acid reflux, took a Maalox and went to work; a few hours later, she came into the hospital having a heart attack.
If you're having trouble exerting yourself or have some discomfort or pain in your chest or you're just not feeling right, see a doctor immediately.

 5. Heart Palpitations
Heart palpitations are often related to stress, but if persistent, they can also be a sign of atrial fibrillation, which is an irregular heartbeat. If you don't seek treatment for atrial fibrillation, you increase your risk of  having a stroke, especially if you have other risk factors for heart disease, which include an abdominal girth of more than 35 inches in women, high cholesterol, high blood pressure or if you smoke.

  6. Shortness of Breath
Shortness of breath is yet another symptom of heart disease. But it can also be a sign of other diseases, such as pneumonia, asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, lung cancer or even a blood clot. They're all very serious, so if you're having continual or increased problems breathing, make an appointment to be evaluated.

 7. Pelvic Pain During Intercourse
It's not normal to have pelvic pain during sex, so pay attention if this symptom occurs. If pelvic pain happens during deep penetration, it could indicate pelvic inflammatory disease (PIV), endometriosis, an ovarian cyst or cervixitis, which is an infection of the cervix. Pelvic pain upon entry can mean a vaginal infection or a hormone deficiency.

If you do experience pelvic pain during intercourse, don't shrug it off. Go to the doctor. An infection that goes untreated can lead to infertility.

 8. Change in the Appearance of a Mole
Melanoma (skin cancer) is often linked to a change in moles, so check your moles regularly for any difference in their appearance. Follow the ABCD method recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation and the American Academy of Dermatology to help detect possible problems.

If the mole is A, asymmetrical; B, has uneven borders; C, has changed in color; or D, changed in diameter, see a dermatologist immediately. Any changes in your skin, such as a growth or a sore that won't heal, are also potential indicators of melanoma.

 9. Breast Lumps
Examine your breasts monthly to detect any new masses or lumps and have a yearly breast exam. It might sound funny, but you should be able to read your breasts like a map. That way, you'll be able to recognize an unusual mass or lump and have it evaluated right away. Potentially cancerous lumps usually feel like small stones or rocks in your breast, Kinzy says. Non-cancerous lumps are typically more tender and change in response to your menstrual cycle. But this is not always the case, so check with your doctor if any new lump appears.

10. Swelling in Legs or Persistent Pain in Joints
If you notice swelling in one or both legs, particularly after you've been traveling in a car or airplane, you should seek the advice of a doctor.

Swelling in one leg can mean a blood clot, while swelling in both legs can be a sign of kidney or liver disease.
Pain in joints that doesn't go away could mean something more serious than arthritis, such as lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, which may require steroid treatment.

What’s So Special About Carrot Juice?

Thirty-five years ago, when I was told I had colon cancer, Evangelist Lester Roloff encouraged me to eliminate all animal foods (both flesh and dairy) from my diet, along with refined sugar and refined grains. He went on to encourage me to consume lots of carrot juice if I wanted to restore my health. Not understanding all the reasons why, I took his advice.
Within days of making these dietary changes my rectal bleeding had stopped. Within less than a year the tumor in my colon had disappeared – all without any help from a doctor or the use of any chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.

After this experience I rationalized that if carrot juice could help my body recover from colon cancer, it might be good to continue consuming it order to help me remain well. And I have done just that.
Today, 35 years after eliminating some health-destroying things and adding carrot juice to my diet, I find myself just three years short of my 80th birthday still alive and well with an extremely youthful body.
Now I’m not saying that it was the carrot juice all by itself that has allowed me to enjoy such excellent health, but I do believe with all my heart it has been a huge factor.

What’s In Carrot Juice That Makes It So Special
Carrot juice not only tastes good (if the carrots are grown in California – more on that later), it has a vast array of nutrients and health benefits. It’s also easily absorbed and highly cleansing.
Carrots contain approximately 16% sugar. Some think this is negative because it results in a glycemic index of 80. However, research here at Hallelujah Acres reveals that it has less spiking affect on the blood than a baked potato or two slices of whole wheat toast.
Carrots are one of the most healing foods, providing the finest and highest quality nutrients, especially in juice form. Carrots are an excellent source of pro-vitamin A in the form of carotene, along with vitamins C, D, E, K, B1 and B6.
Carrots are rich in biotin, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, organic sodium, plus lots of trace minerals. Carrots are also high in anti-oxidants and are loaded with enzymes.
Phytonutrients are nature’s marvelous provision in healing various diseases. Carrots are also rich in phytonutrients, including lutein, lycopene, antioxidants, alpha, beta, and gamma carotenes, zeaxanthin, and xanthophylls.

Carrots Effect on Common Health Problems

Acidosis
The alkalizing elements in carrot juice
help balance the blood’s acidityas well as blood sugar levels.
The Standard American Diet consists of highly acidic animal protein, refined sugar and grains. Conversely, The Hallelujah Diet contains lots of alkalizing plant sourced foods (carrot juice being one of the most alkalizing). When people stop consuming the Standard American Diet and start consuming The Hallelujah Diet, they are usually able to stop taking their over-the-counter and doctor prescribed antacids in a short period of time.

AnemiaThe molecules in carrots are very similar to the molecules in human hemoglobin, making it a tremendous blood builder.
AtherosclerosisThis miraculous cleansing power of juices helps scrub away built-up fat deposits on arterial walls, reducing risk of heart attack and stroke, while often eliminating need for medications due to high blood pressure.

Cancer
The daily consumption of fresh carrot juice not only
reduces cancer risk, but also contributes in its reversal after the cancer has manifested.
At the Gerson Institute in Tijuana, Mexico, they have helped patients empower their immune systems to reverse cancer (even terminal cancer). Patients receive eight glasses of freshly extracted carrot juice daily and four glasses of green juices along with other healing modalities.

CholesterolThe pectin in carrot juice helps lower serum levels of LDL cholesterol, reducing the need for cholesterol lowering medications.

CongestionThe juice of carrots is extremely effective in dispelling mucus from the ears, nose and throat, while improving sinusitis, asthma, and allergy problems.

EyesThe beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene, and zeaxanthin found in carrot juice are some of the most powerful nutrients for the optic system. In addition to helping to improving eyesight, these nutrients also provide special protection against astigmatism, macular degeneration, cataracts, and glaucoma.
After consuming carrot juice on a daily basis since the 1970s, I was able to pass my North Carolina drivers eye test without glasses at the age of 75. This ended a restriction on my driver’s license for corrective lenses after over 50 years.

InfertilityOne of the primary reasons for infertility is a lack of nutrients and enzymes in the diet. Regular use of carrot juice can help provide nutrients that benefit the reproduction system.
In fact, dozens of women who could not conceive prior to adopting The Hallelujah Diet have been able to conceive after changing their diet.

InflammationCarrot juice has anti-inflammatory properties that greatly reduce the symptoms of arthritis, rheumatism, gout, and other inflammations.

Immune SystemMost people who consume the Standard American Diet (SAD) have immune systems that are not sufficiently protective against germs, viruses, and bacteria. Carrot juice is a powerful immune system builder. It helps the body build resistance to germs, viruses, bacteria, and infections.

Nursing MothersCarrot juice enhances the quality and quantity of mother’s breast milk, helping the baby to grow strong and resistant to disease.

Skin ProblemsThe incredibly high quality nutrients in carrot juice nourish the skin. This helps prevent dry skin, psoriasis, and other skin problems. It also helps improve or eliminate these conditions if they already exist.

Water Retention
Carrot juice is a diuretic that
helps the body eliminate excess fluids, reducing water retention, and thus reducing the need for medications. Carrot juice is especially helpful for women during their monthly menstrual cycle and during pregnancy.
The above is only a short and partial list of the benefits one can derive from the regular consumption of carrot juice. There are numerous more benefits, but we could go on for days.

Eating Carrots vs. Juicing Carrots
In short, you simply cannot get the same benefits of carrot juice by eating carrots.
According to Dr. Kirschner (M.D.) in his book Live Food Juices, eating a carrot forces your digestive system to separate the carrot fiber from the carrot juice. This uses a lot of energy and destroys over 65% of the nutrients in the process.

Dr. Kirschner goes on to say that juicing carrots before consuming them is a different story. The juicing machine removes the pulp for you, eliminating much of the digestive process. As a result, 92% of the nutrients are available at cellular level for almost immediate use.
It takes approximately one pound of carrots to produce eight ounces of carrot juice. Few people could eat a pound of carrots even if the nutrient intake was the same. Consuming eight ounces of carrot juice is much easier.

It Matters Where Your Carrots Come From
Carrots that contain the highest level of nutrients produce the sweetest juice. That is why we personally use and recommend California-grown carrots. The Hallelujah Acres Store carries the Bunny Luv (Grimmway Farms) brand of organic carrots.
Ancient volcanic activity in the California region accounts for a large amount of trace minerals in the soil. Trace minerals produce a sweeter carrot. For the same reason, California-grown fruits are sweeter, as are fruits grown in Oregon and Washington state.

The Best Juicers For Carrots
I do not recommend a centrifugal juicer for juicing any vegetable. This kind of juicer has a basket that spins at a very fast speed (up to 3,000 RPM) which flings the juice through the air, causing oxidation. Centrifugal juicers are more affordable than other juicers and are better than nothing. However, they are not advisable for a person dealing with a serious illness.

Champion Juicer
This is a workhorse of a juicer that has been around for a very long time. It does an excellent job of juicing carrots but not as good a job juicing leafy greens.

Green Star Juicer
This juicer does an excellent job juicing carrots as well as leafy greens. The brand new
Green Star Elite is an exceptional machine and probably the best juicer on the market today except for the $2,000 Norwalk Press.

Hurom Juicer
This is an excellent juicer for the person who has very little room on their countertop. It has a small footprint in comparison to the juicers mentioned above. It is also easier to use for the person without a lot of arm strength, but not recommended for large amounts of juicing.

Why Factory-made Carrot Juice Is Not Worth Your Money
I believe factory-made carrot juice, commercially available in a can, bottle or other container, is basically worthless. These juices have either been cooked or pasteurized, which destroys the enzymes. They are dead food.

Occasionally you will find health food stores that offer freshly extracted, non-pasteurized carrot juice. This juice will usually keep a day or two in the refrigerator.

How To Store Carrot Juice
All of the living nutrients in freshly extracted carrot juice can be preserved for 24 to 72 hours if certain steps are taken. First, use any of the above juicers, strain, and place in 8 oz canning jars all the way to the top. Cover the jars with a tight fitting lid, locking out as much air as possible. Then place in a refrigerator or ice chest (if traveling).

Start Juicing Today!
Juicing is one of the best ways to nourish your body and to provide it the building materials it needs to build healthy cells and a strong immune system. It is not always convenient and it takes some time — but I guarantee it is well worth it!

Here’s To Your Health
God has given us but one body for this lifetime here on Earth. It behooves each of us to take good care of our body so that we can experience the ultimate health God designed for each one of us. It will ensure a body fit for the Master’s use.

Papaya Found To Halt Breast Cancer

Scientists studied 14 plant foods commonly consumed in Mexico to determine their ability to halt breast cancer cell growth. These included avocado, black sapote, fuava, mango, prickly pear cactus (nopal), pineapple, grapes, tomato, and papaya. They also evaluated beta-carotene, total plant phenolics, and gallic acid contents and antioxidant capacity. They found that only papaya had a significant effect on stopping breast cancer cell growth. (International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition, May)

Papaya is a store-house of cancer fighting lycopene

The intense orangey-pink color of papaya means it is chock full of cancer fighting carotenoids. Not only beta carotene, but lycopene is found in abundance. The construction of lycopene makes it highly reactive toward oxygen and free radicals. Scientists at the University of Illinois think this anti-oxidant activity contributes to its effectiveness as a cancer fighting agent. Epidemiological studies have indicated an inverse relationship between lycopene intake and prostate cancer risk. They showed that oral lycopene is highly bioavailable, accumulates in prostate tissue, and is localized in the nucleus of prostate epithelial cells.

In addition to antioxidant activity, other experiments have indicated that lycopene induces cancer cell death, anti-metastatic activity, and the up-regulation of protective enzymes. Phase I and II studies have established the safety of lycopene supplementation. (Cancer Letter, October 8, 2008)

Prostate cancer was the subject of a study in Australia that looked at 130 prostate cancer patients and 274 hospitalized controls. The scientists found that men who consumed the most lycopene-rich fruits and vegetables such as papaya were 82% less likely to have prostate cancer. In this study, green tea also exerted a powerf! ul anti-cancer effect. When lycopene-rich foods were consumed with green tea, the combination was even more effective, an outcome the researchers credited to their synergy. ( Asia Pacific Journal of Clinical Nutrition
, 2007)

Isothiocyanates found in papaya restore the cell cycle to eliminate cancer

Organo-sulfur compounds called isothiocyanates are found in papaya. In animal experiments, isothiocyanates protected against cancers of the breast, lung, colon pancreas, and prostate, as well as leukemia, and they have the potential to prevent cancer in humans. Isothiocyanates have shown themselves capable of inhibiting both the formation and development of cancer cells through multiple pathways and mechanisms. (International Journal of Oncology), October, 2008)

Researchers in Japan clarified the mechanisms of action in a type of isothiocyanate found in papaya known as BITC, that underlies the relationship between cell cycle regulation and appropriate cell death. When cancerous cells die on schedule, they are no longer a problem. The researchers established that BITC exerted cancer cell killing effects that were greater in the proliferating cells than in the quiescent cells. Cancer cells that are proliferating are much more dangerous than cancer cells that are in a state of dormancy. (Forum of Nutrition, 2009)

Enzymes from papaya digest proteins including those that protect tumors

The fruit and other parts of the papaya tree, also known as the paw paw tree, contain papain and chymopapain, powerful proteolytic enzymes that facilitate chemical reactions in the body. They promote digestion by helping to break down proteins from food into amino acids that can be recombined to produce protein useable by humans. Proteolytic enzymes protect the body from inflammation and help heal burns. They do a good job of digesting unwanted scar tissue both on the skin and under its surface.

Research has shown that the physical an! d mental health of people is highly dependent on their ability to produce proteins they can use effectively. However, as people age, they produce less of the enzymes needed to effectively digest proteins from food and free needed amino acids. They are left with excessive amounts of undigested protein which can lead to overgrowth of unwanted bacteria in the intestinal tract, and a lack of available amino acids.

Eating papaya after a meal promotes digestion, and helps prevent bloating, gas production, and indigestion. It is quite helpful after antibiotic use to replenish friendly intestinal bacteria that were the casualties in the war against the unwanted bacteria. When the intestinal tract is well populated with friendly bacteria, the immune system is strengthened, and can better protect against flu and cancer.

Being a proteolytic enzyme, papain is able to destroy intestinal parasites, which are composed mostly of protein. To rid the body of intestinal parasites, half a cup of papaya juice can be alternated each hour for twelve consecutive hours with the same amount of cucumber or green bean juice.

Papaya contains fibrin, another useful compound not readily found in the plant kingdom. Fibrin reduces the risk of blood clots and improves the quality of blood cells, optimizing the ability of blood to flow through the circulatory system. Fibrin is also important in preventing stokes. Proteolytic enzymes containing fibrin are a good idea for long plane rides to minimize the potential of blood clots in the legs. People who sit at a desk all day might want to use proteolytic enzymes too.

Proteolytic enzymes are able to digest and destroy the defense shields of viruses, tumors, allergens, yeasts, and various forms of fungus. Once the shield is destroyed, tumors and invading organisms are extremely vulnerable and easily taken care of by the immune system.

Undigested proteins can penetrate the gut and wind up in the bloodstream where they are treated by the immune system as invaders. If too many undigested proteins are floating around, the immune system becomes overburdened and unable to attend to the other tasks it was meant to do. Proteolytic enzymes can digest these rogue proteins, freeing up the immune system.

TIPS TO COMBAT DEMENTIA

To help ward off dementia, train your brain:
*The minute you said you are retired, Dementia
 STARTS !!!!
Timing is  everything, comedians  say. It's also important when it  comes to taking care of your brain. Yet most of us start worrying about dementia after retirement - and that may be too little, too late.  Experts say that if you really want to ward off dementia, you need to start taking care of your brain in your 30s and or even earlier.
"More and more research  is suggesting that lifestyle  is very important to  your brain's health," says Dr Paul Nussbaum, a neuro-psychologist and an  adjunct associate professor  at the University of  Pittsburgh School of   Medicine "If you want to live a long, healthy  life, then many of us need  to start as early as we can.
"So what can you do to beef up your brain – and possibly ward off dementia?”
Dr Nussbaum, who recently gave a speech on the topic for the Winter Park (Fla.) Health Foundation,  offers 20 tips that may help to  ward off dementia.

1.*Join clubs or organizations that  need volunteers*.  If you start volunteering now, you won't feel lost and unneeded after you retire.

2.*Develop a hobby or two*. Hobbies help you develop a robust brain because you're  trying something new and complex.

3.*Practice  writing with your non-dominant hand several minutes  everyday*. This will exercise the  opposite side of your brain and fire up those neurons.

4.*Take dance  lessons*.  In a study of nearly 500 people, dancing was the only regular physical  activity associated with a significant decrease in the incidence of dementia,  including Alzheimer's disease. The people who danced three or four times a week showed 76% less incidence of dementia than those who danced only once a week  or not at all.

5. Need a hobby? *Start gardening*.  Researchers in New Zealand found that, of 1,000 people, those who gardened regularly were less likely to suffer from dementia. Not only does gardening reduce stress, but gardeners use their brains to plan garden they use visual and spatial reasoning to lay out a garden.

6.*Buy a pedometer and walk 10,000 steps a day*. Walking daily can reduce the risk of dementia because cardio vascular health is important to maintain blood flow to the  brain.

7.*Read and write daily*. Reading stimulates a wide variety of brain areas that process and store information. Likewise, writing (not copying) stimulates many areas of the brain as well.

8.*Start  knitting*.  Using both hands works both sides of your brain. And it's a stress reducer.

9.*Learn a new language*.  Whether it's a foreign language  or sign language,  you are working your brain by making it go back and  forth  between one  language and the other.
A researcher in England found that being bilingual seemed to delay symptoms of Alzheimer's disease for four years. (And some research suggests that the earlier a child learns sign language, the higher his IQ - and people with high IQs are less likely to have dementia.  So start them early.)

10.*Play board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly*. Not only are you  taxing your brain,  you're socializing too.  (Playing solo games, such  as solitaire  or online  computer brain games can be helpful, but Dr  Nussbaum prefers  games that  encourage you to socialize too.) *MAHJONG IS GOOD!* besides which there is the incentive of $$$.

11.*Take classes throughout your  lifetime*.   Learning produces structural and chemical changes in the  brain, and education appears to help people live longer. Brain researchers  have found that people with advanced degrees live longer - and if they do have  Alzheimer's, it often becomes apparent only in the very later stages of the  disease.

12.*Listen to classical music*. A growing volume of research suggests that  music may hardwire the brain, building links between  the two hemispheres.
Any kind of music may work, but there's some  research that shows positive effects for  classical music, though researchers don't understand why.

13.*Learn a  musical instrument*.  It may be harder than it was  when you were a kid,  but you'll be developing a dormant part of your  brain.

14.*TRAVEL*. When you travel (whether it's to a distant vacation spot or on a different route across town), you're forcing your brain to navigate a new and complex environment.
A study of London taxi drivers found  experienced drivers had larger brains because they have to store lots of information about locations and how to navigate there.

15.*Pray*.  Daily prayer appears to help your immune system. And people who attend a formal worship service regularly live longer and report  happier, healthier lives.

16. *Learn to meditate*.  It's important for your brain that you learn to shut out the stresses of everyday life.

17.*Get enough sleep*. Studies have shown a link between interrupted sleep and  dementia.

18.*Eat more  foods containing Omega-3  fatty acids*.
Salmon, sardines, tuna, ocean trout, mackerel  or herring, plus walnuts (which are higher in Omega 3s than salmon) and flaxseed.
Flaxseed oil, cod liver oil and walnut oil are good sources too.

19.*Eat more  fruits and vegetables*.  Antioxidants in fruits and vegetables mop up some of the  damage caused by free radicals, one of the leading killers of brain  cells.

20.*Eat at least one meal a day  with family and friends*.  You'll slow down, socialize, and  research shows you'll eat healthier food than if  you ate alone or on the  go.

21.* In addition, I think  receiving and distributing e-mails every day helps  the brain function and exercise!!*

MSG (a slow poison) - Very Interesting Information For Those Who Eat Out Often.

The food additive MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) is a slow poison. MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as Natural Flavouring." MSG is even in your favourite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops!

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the  University  of  Waterloo  in  Ontario , Canada , and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America .

In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born.

The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats(and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats."

When I heard this, I was shocked. I went into my kitchen and checked the cupboards and the refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- the  Campbell 's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavoured potato chips, Top Ramen,Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the "healthy low-fat" ones.

The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called "Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein," which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate.

It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG are "Accent, "Aginomoto," "Natural Meat Tenderizer," etc.)

But it didn't stop there.

When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolysed Vegetable Protein were everywhere.

Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant -- even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing. and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative, or a vitamin?

Not according to my friend John Erb. In his book The Slow Poisoning of America , he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more.

A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

"Betcha can't eat [just] one," takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight!

MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance. Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the pre-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. But how can they claim it's safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these:

"The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity." Gobatto CA, Mello MA,  Souza CT , Ribeiro   IA.  Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002.

"Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats." Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro. Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug.

"Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors." Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K,  Ichikawa  K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima. Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar.

"Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity." Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki. Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct.

No, the date of that last study was not a typo; it was published in 1978. Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about the side effects of MSG for decades.

Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to diabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's.

So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in  Canada  . While he was sitting in the      government office, the official told him, "Sure, I know how bad MSG is. I wouldn't touch the stuff." But this top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows.

The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it.

Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

But what can I do about it? I'm just one voice! What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us?

This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone.

With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation protecting those who are poisoning us.

The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on nicotine?

If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself.

Go to the National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com. Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear.

We the public do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for the heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders.

With your help we can put an end to this poison. Do your part in sending this message out by word of mouth, e-mail, or by distribution of this printout to your friends all over the world and stop this "Slow Poisoning of Mankind" by the packaged food industry.

Blowing the whistle on MSG is our responsibility, so get the word out.
